STEVENS
CREEK TRAIL UPDATE: PUBLIC INPUT MEETING RESULTS AND NEXT STEPS
July 9, 2015 – Recently, the cities of Cupertino, Los Altos,
Mountain View and Sunnyvale held a series of meetings to gather public input
regarding the Stevens Creek Trail Feasibility Study. You can read a summary of
these comments compiled by the facilitator of these meetings
at the City of Sunnyvale's website.
It is readily apparent from the summary
that the message from the public urging local officials to utilize and improve
existing infrastructure came across loud and clear. While there were a number
of speakers supporting a vision that replicates the nature-like experience in
the Mountain View section of the trail, it was clear that most people did not
want public officials to force fit that
vision onto existing residential streets
and neighborhoods.
Final Feasibility Study Draft
The next step in the process is for the
“Four Cities” to publish the final version of the Stevens Creek Trail
Feasibility Study Draft. This draft will include any corrections and all the
public comments that were submitted. Citizens for Responsible Trails asks those
who submitted comments to read the final draft to ensure all comments were
included.
Next Meeting: July 20
The next step in the process is for the
Joint Cities
Working Team
to meet to review the recommendations from theCitizens Working Group. In
its most recent meeting, the unelected
Citizens Working Group overwhelmingly ignored public input and collectively
recommended public works projects that would be both expensive and disruptive.
We urge concerned citizens to attend the
Joint Cities
Working Team
meeting on July 20 at 6:30pm at the Cupertino Community Hall. This body of elected
officials will make a joint recommendation that will be considered by the cities
involved. The public is invited to attend and provide comments at the meeting.
